Ishtar Airlines (Ishtar, named for an ancient Babylonian goddess) an airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates incorporated in March 2005 operating scheduled passenger services, its main bases & only destinations, Baghdad International Airport and Dubai International Airport, was setup by Iraqi businessman Safa Al-Jusani and a group of former Iraqi Airways pilots. Before the 2003, Al-Jusani ran a travel company that conducted tours to northern Iraq and neighboring Jordan.

Ishtar Airline initially operated a Boeing 1 x 737 and 1 x 727-200 Adv with a three flights a week frequency between Baghdad and Dubai. As of October 2009, Ishtar Airlines seems to have ceased flight operations, it has been reported the remaining aircraft a Boeing 727-200Adv is currently operated by African Express Airways.

Mesopotamia Air was incorporated in 2007 registered in Baghdad with its operating base at Sulaimaniyah International Airport. It operates flights from Sulaimaniyah Airport in Iraqi Kurdistan, domestically in addition to European destinations (Amsterdam, Frankfurt and London via Vienna). Mesopotamia Air plans to commence VIP charter and air taxi operations and is currently considering an air cargo operation utilizing Sulaimaniyah International Airport as a Cargo hub.

Mesopotamia Air fleet consisted of the following aircraft

  • 1 x BAe 146-200 (registration: OY-RCZ 01/06/2007 to 01/01/2008)
  • 1 x McDonnell Douglas MD-83
  • 1 x Boeing 737-300 (operated by Iraqi Airways from March 2009 under the registration of YI-AQO)
